Sustainable Solutions rooted in Spirituality and Natural Farming
Agriculture and Rural Development Wing (RERF) of Brahma Kumaris
In the realm of rural and agricultural development, the Agriculture and Rural Development Wing (RERF) of Brahmakumaris has emerged as a beacon of hope, spearheading sustainable initiatives to uplift rural communities. With a holistic approach that combines innovative practices and ancient wisdom, the Brahma Kumaris are making significant headway in transforming the lives of individuals living in rural areas. Various initiatives were undertaken with a focus on village adoption, sustainable yogic agriculture, environmental consciousness, cleanliness campaigns, scientific research, creation of farm models, community services, home gardening, de-addiction efforts, tribal, youth, and women empowerment.
Adarsh Vatika exemplifies sustainable agriculture, merging age-old wisdom with modern eco-practices. It’s a hub for biodiversity, yogic farming, and human-nature synergy, aiming for a future where farming enriches both earth and people. Key features include multilayer and cow-based farming, water conservation, self-reliance, agroforestry, seed preservation, composting, and meditation. The farm nurtures a kitchen garden, floriculture, horticulture, millets, medicinal plants, staple and cereal crops, spices, and cash crops. It also revives ancient farming, practices zero tillage, and uses efficient farm tools, all underpinned by Rajayoga meditation for holistic growth.
Tapovan is a serene retreat nestled in the Aravalli ranges, promoting harmony with nature through Natural farming and Rajyoga meditation. It boasts a rich variety of trees and plants, alongside facilities like a meditation hall, parking, and a therapeutic acupressure path. Emphasizing sustainability and spiritual growth, Tapovan features a Sustainable Yogic Farming initiative, a Herbal Garden, a Silence Zone, and a Pyramid for Meditation, among others. It’s a place which unites spirituality and the environment, offering a peaceful sanctuary for rejuvenation and spiritual practice.
In Abu Road, a desolate waste land of Aarogyavan has been transformed by the RERF into a model of sustainable health and agriculture. Overcoming water challenges with high TDS, innovative farming has produced abundant crops, including 100+ tons of potatoes. Aarogyavan is now a lush oasis of native plants and meditation spaces, attracting many for its serene environment and promoting the ethos of nurturing nature to nurture humanity. This transformation stands as a testament to the power of sustainable practices and team spirit.
The Brahmakumaris Adarsh Goushala in Abu Road is a sanctuary for over 70 cows, treated with reverence and care. Established by the Agriculture and Rural Development Wing, it emphasizes a humane approach, allowing cows freedom and comfort, with practices like untying them post-milking and providing sand beds. The goushala’s environment fosters joyful interactions between cows and visitors, promoting animal welfare. It serves as an inspirational model for cow rearing, advocating for a sustainable and peaceful coexistence, and symbolizes service to mother cows as a path to nurturing the Earth.
